CINDER HYPKI
Mosaics - Community Art

Cinder Hypki is an artist, educator and community development consultant living in Baltimore, Maryland.  Her mosaic work in ceramic tile and glass ranges from fine art pieces to commissioned murals. Hypki’s mobiles and assemblages are mixed media works in rusted metal, wood, natural and found objects. As an artist, she aspires to tell stories about her inner and outer life, to make sense of her world, to write poems in tile and wire, stained glass and rusted metal. In mosaics she finds and creates a metaphorical coherent voice for disparate experiences.

As a practicing community artist, Ms. Hypki has facilitated mosaic projects with all ages in collaboration with many organizations throughout Baltimore and beyond.  Her most recent large-scale community art project includes “A Mosaic of Faiths, Hearts and Hands” with 30 students at the Johns Hopkins University’s Interfaith and Community Service Center. Hypki currently teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art in the newly established graduate program awarding a Masters of Art in Community Arts.
